Thermocycle plot

The Thermocycle plot widget is a phase diagram for liquids at different thermodynamic positions and states. This widget should be used with channels coming from the Thermodynamics application module.

Widget setup

When using the Thermocycle widget together with the Thermodynamics application module, the module provides a pre-defined display template which you will have available when going to Measure like shown below:

This template will give you pre-selected widgets including the Thermocycle widget, and channels will be connected from the Thermodynamics module like shown below:

In case you want to add and use the Thermocycle widget manually you can add and link data to it as described below:

Add the module to the setup

In order to configure the Thermocycle widget, click “Widgets” with the + icon in Measure:

Then select the Thermocycle widget with the icon as shown below:

Link data to the widget

When the widget has been added then select a channel group from a Thermodynamics module in the channel list, found in the right side of the screen:

Readout values

The Thermocycle plot widget let you follow the values of all thermodynamic quantities at the pointer of the mouse, as shown below:

This e.g. helps with quick investigations and to keep an overview. It can also be used to help with determination of reference cycle positions.

Drag and zoom

By leftclick-hold and dragging the mouse you will see a yellow rectangle following the pointer. when you let go of the click-hold the diagram will zoom in to the area covered by the yellow rectangle, like shown below:

You can at anytime zoom out again to the previous ranges by right-clicking the mouse.

Widget properties

The Thermocycle widget has multiple property sections as listed below:

  • Display options
  • Reference cycle
  • Measured cycle
  • Temperature (for p-h) or Pressure (for T-s) isolines
  • Quality isolines
  • Density isolines
  • Entropy (for p-h) or Enthalpy (for T-s) isolines

Display options

Graph type

The Thermocycle widget supports the following Graph type:

  • $p-h$ - pressure vs. enthalpy diagram, with linear axes
  • $log(p)-h$ - pressure vs. enthalpy diagram, with a logarithmic pressure axis
  • $T-s$ - temperature vs. entropy diagram, with linear axes
X axis unit

The x-axis can be adjusted to show the joules term in $[J]$, $[kJ]$, or $[MJ]$

Y axis unit

p-h diagrams:

The y-axis can be adjusted to show the pressure term specified in: $[Pa]$, $[hPa]$, $[kPa]$, $[MPa]$, $[bar]$, $[mbar]$, or $[psi]$

T-s diagrams:

The y-axis can be adjusted to show the temperature term specified in: Kelvin $[K]$, degrees Celsius $[ºC]$, and degrees Fahrenheit $[ºF]$

Reference cycle

The Reference cycle is plotting the data calculated from the Thermodynamics Reference cycle table.

Color and Line thickness can be adjusted.

Measured cycle

The Measured cycle is plotting the data calculated from the Thermodynamics Input channel table.

Below a Measured cycle and a Reference cycle is plotted:

Color and Line thickness can be adjusted.

Isolines

In order to follow all thermodynamic properties across the axis ranges, the Thermocycle widget supports overlaid isolines for all quantities that aren’t allready included by the axes, p-h or T-s:

So for p-h diagrams you can configure isolines for:

  • Temperature
  • Quality
  • Density
  • Entropy

And for T-s diagrams you can configure isolines for:

  • Quality
  • Density
  • Pressure
  • Enthalpy

Common isolines settings

All isoline types are optional, and can have the following properties adjusted:

  • Enable
  • Color
  • Unit
  • Line thickness

For all isoline types you can either enter a number of individual desired isolines manually, or you can select how many isolines you want to have evenly spread over diagram, as shown below:

Temperature isolines

Available for p-h diagrams:

A user-defined number of evenly spread Temperature isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed temperature across the axis ranges:

Pressure isolines

Available for T-s diagrams:

A user-defined number of evenly spread Pressure isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed temperature across the axis ranges:

Quality isolines

A user-defined number of evenly spread Quality isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed quality number across the axis ranges within the saturation curve:

Density isolines

A user-defined number of evenly spread Density isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed density across the axis ranges:

Entropy isolines

Available for p-h diagrams:

A user-defined number of evenly spread Entropy isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed entropy across the axis ranges:

Enthalpy isolines

Available for T-s diagrams:

A user-defined number of evenly spread Enthalpy isolines or specific isolines can be selected to be plotted, which will follow a fixed entropy across the axis ranges:
